Ukulele
The ukulele (also called ukulele and sometimes even uke), pronounced as Yoekelille, with its compact size and round, clear sound is a stringed instrument that can count on an unrelenting popularity. It is a pleasant instrument to play that, due to its summery, relaxed sound, evokes a holiday feeling in many. The origin of the ukulele therefore lies in Hawaii and from this island the instrument gained popularity in other parts of the world in the first half of the twentieth century. You are in good company with a ukulele in your instrument collection: none other than Eddie Vedder, George Harrison and Madonna play this cheerfully tuning stringed instrument.
